Iron & Anemia Test
About this test
Iron & Anemia Tests are a group of blood tests used to evaluate anemia, iron deficiency, iron overload, and other conditions affecting red blood cell production. They help identify the possible cause of low hemoglobin or other abnormalities found in a CBC.
Preparation
It depends on the test and laboratory protocol. Ferritin: Usually no fasting required. Serum Iron / TIBC / Transferrin: Fasting may be recommended by some laboratories, often with a morning sample. Vitamin B12 / Folate: Usually no fasting required. Reticulocyte count: No fasting required. Peripheral smear: No fasting required. If several tests are being done together, the laboratory may recommend 8–12 hours of fasting for convenience and consistency.
